ONESIES!

Son-shine grew up in tee shirts and denim jeans.  You won't find his name under the Best Dressed title in his high school year book.  The more well-worn said tee shirt and jeans were, the better.  His casual style was just that: casual.

If he has his way MeeMi's Baby will follow in his footsteps, nothing but tee shirts and jeans in her future.  Thankfully, neither baby girl's MeeMi or her mommy will be having any of that.

I will however concede that MeeMi's Baby will have her fair share of onesies.  It's hot in the South and while she's in that sleep all day and drool all night stage, onesies will come in handy.  And to give homage to her daddy's quirky humor, her onesies will definitely be casually stylish!

ROSS OSCAR KNIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m sending a shout out and plugging the business of my absolute favorite photographer today.
I’m discovering that photographing children is not easy.  Especially if you’re not a photographer. Point a camera at a mini-munchkin and they’ll either give you a look that’s not particularly photogenic or they run in the opposite direction.  Kids are busy, squirmy, fast, and sometimes annoyingly cantankerous.  Then of course there’s always that picture-imperfect fake smile kids are so renowned for.  That one we mothers ingrain into their little minds every time we point a camera and cajole them to “smile” in our pretty Mary Poppins’ voices.
Ross Oscar Knight is a world-renowned photographer of the highest caliber.  He has the amazing ability to capture the authentic presence of children, and adults.  He and his beautiful wife recently welcomed their own mini-munchkin who’s become quite the starlet in her daddy’s camera lens.
As always Ross, a truly gifted talent, amazes and inspires me.  Weddings are his specialty, but with talent like his there's not anything he can't photograph.  And both he and Ms. Tara Nicole, his child photographer, manage to wrangle those mini-munchkins in all their adorable cuteness with relative ease.
So, if you have need of a photographer for any special moment in your life, don’t hesitate to contact Ross and his crew.  They’re based in Atlanta but they travel.  You won’t be disappointed.

PAGE TURNERS

Chicka chicka boom boom

Powered by mp3bool.com

I’ve been unpacking books. Kid’s books. As a little boy, Son-shine had quite a collection of books. He also collected rocks, dinosaurs, and Matchbook cars. I’m not unpacking those if there are any stored away in the stuff he keeps promising to come get. But I am unpacking the books.

Son-shine was a ferocious reader and not only did he like to read, he loved to be read to. Then he turned sixteen and suddenly reading wasn’t his thing. Thankfully that phase of childhood stupid didn’t last long. Son-shine and I read the entire Harry Potter series together. Every book. We were like addicts with each new release and even attended two or three Harry Potter events at our local bookstore. One of them was even at midnight if I recall. His memories are as fond of those moments as mine. He called recently to ask me to send him the Harry Potter set. He plans to read them to Meemi’s Baby. That made me smile.

There are three books that stand out in my mind that Son-shine and I read together over and over again. We read them so many times that I can still recite passages of them from memory. The first was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault. Baby boy learned his alphabet singing that song. He carried the accompanying cassette tape from the car to the tape player and back. He never went anywhere without it. Weeks of his rhyming about a coconut tree and then like that the ABC’s were a piece of cake.

The second was Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. We read all the Dr. Seuss books but that one was his favorite. Do you like green eggs and ham? I do not like them, Sam I Am. I do not like Green Eggs and Ham. For months, everything Son-shine disliked concluded with I do not like that, Sam I Am!

The last is still my absolute favorite, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. That one always ended with hours of him asking over and over again, do you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me? Son-shine has never known how much I love him. He couldn’t begin to comprehend the magnitude of that kind of love. But his turn’s coming. Because if Meemi’s Baby has even a fraction of his heart the way he has mine, they’re story is going to be a great page turner.

MY BONNIE AND CLYDE

It has really started to sink in that my baby is about to have a baby of his own.  Son-shine and the new daughter-in-law (affectionately known as Bonnie and Clyde) are mere weeks from embracing the next phase of their lives.  The challenges coming will test their strength and fortitude and fully define who they are, what they want, and present life in a whole new way.   It is going to be a grandparent's dream I-told-you-so moment!

I know that they are both excited and scared.  Being blessed with the responsibility of a new life will be one of the biggest challenges either will ever have to face.  I know I'm excited and scared to death for them.

Being MeeMi affords me the opportunity to embrace having a new baby in a whole new light.  I get to give MeeMi's baby back when I don't want to be bothered.  Son-shine and the new daughter-in-law won't have that luxury. I get to spoil her rotten and let them worry about the discipline.  My baby girl and I are going to have a great time together.  I can't wait for that moment when me and my new bundle of joy get to Thelma and Louise our way into trouble while my Bonnie and Clyde take a rest.

I'm counting down.  Life is about to get sweeter than sweet!

I know, it's pink, but it's pretty and isn't she just a little doll?

She's one of Meemi's pretty, pretty princesses and she has a smile that just melts my heart!
